Finding New Makers: Celebrating Skill, Craft and Community

Recently, we ran a series of relaxed machine tests to meet local women with professional sewing skills. These sessions weren’t about pressure or perfection, they were simply a way for us to understand how each woman sews, the techniques she uses, and the beautifully neat finishes she creates.

More importantly, they gave us the chance to meet talented makers who can help us bring remnant fabrics back to life and give them a second chance.

We were genuinely overwhelmed by the standard of talent. Every woman who came to sew with us was skilled, kind and an absolute pleasure to meet. They came from different backgrounds, cultures and age groups, yet shared the same care, precision and love for their craft. It was a joy to spend time sewing together and getting to know such a brilliant group of women.

There is an incredible depth of sewing talent in the UK, and so many women with highly developed craft skills that deserve to be seen and celebrated.

As we are still in the early stages of our journey, we’re only able to welcome a few

new makers for now. But our mission has always been - and will continue to be - to work with more women, save more fabric, and keep these skills alive as we grow.
