Championing women, tackling waste and supporting a circular economy

This autumn and winter, Remnant Revolution is delivering 100 Come Sew With Us classes across the Cotswolds in six pop-ups.

We’re a sustainable British, women-led brand championing women, tackling textile waste and supporting a more circular economy. But for us, sustainability is about people as much as it is about fabric.

Our 100 classes are 100 opportunities to learn a skill, build confidence, meet someone new, share knowledge, make something with your own hands and keep beautiful fabrics in circulation.

Keeping precious fabrics in circulation

We work with remnant, surplus, sample and leftover fabrics that brands, interior designers and fabric houses no longer need. Where others see waste, we see opportunity.We transform these fabrics into homeware and accessories, creating fairly paid, meaningful work for local women. The smaller pieces that are too small for our products are used in our sewing classes rather than thrown away.

A surplus roll might become cushions or bags, while the smaller offcuts become fabric for someone learning to sew. The fabric keeps moving. It stays in use rather than becoming waste.

For us, this is circularity on a local level: using what already exists, extending its life and finding new purposes for what might otherwise be discarded.

Sewing brings people together

The reason we teach sewing is just as important as the reason we save fabric.

Loneliness and isolation affect communities everywhere, and we believe making things together is a simple but powerful way to bring people closer. There’s something special about sitting around a sewing table. You might arrive not knowing anyone and leave having learned something new, made something yourself and connected with people you didn't know when you arrived.

You can't manufacture that kind of connection. Our classes are relaxed, friendly and open to everyone. Come alone, bring a friend, be a complete beginner or already know your way around an overlocker.

Championing women through work and skills

We’re a team of women with a wide range of sewing skills, creating fairly paid, flexible and meaningful work for local women. We make, teach, learn from each other and share our skills with the wider community. In doing so, we’re keeping valuable practical skills alive while creating opportunities for women to build confidence and earn through their skills.

100 classes. Real local impact.

This autumn and winter, our classes will cover sewing machine basics, zips, mending, embroidery, piping, frilling, upholstery and block printing. We’ve already taught more than 350 people to sew this year and are aiming to reach 1,000 by the end of the year. But the numbers only tell part of the story.

The real impact is the person who gains confidence, the woman who finds meaningful work, the new friendship made around the sewing table and the piece of fabric that avoids becoming waste.

For us, sewing is a practical way to tackle some very big issues:

Textile waste, loneliness, loss of practical skills, lack of flexible work or disconnection from our communities. We can't solve all of these with a sewing machine, but we can make a start.

By keeping fabrics in circulation, creating opportunities for women and bringing people together to learn and make, we’re helping to create a more circular, connected and skilled community, one stitch at a time.
