Make with Meaning: A Furnishing Futures Sewing Class
Make something for a woman who needs it
Service Description
Sew for a healing home Make something beautiful for someone who has had to leave their home and belongings behind. We are a proud partner of Furnishing Futures, a charity that transforms empty social housing into fully furnished, trauma-informed healing homes for women and children escaping domestic abuse. Our team makes cushions for these special homes using Fermoie and Barneby Gates remnant fabrics and you can be part of this too. Join us in our sewing space at The Corn Hall to make a cushion or another lovely homeware piece for a woman or child settling into their new home. We will provide beautiful remnant fabrics and trimmings and guide you through making your piece. The Furnishing Futures team tell us that women love cushions and small bags, while children enjoy tote bags and decorative pieces for their new homes. You can make whatever you feel inspired to create. We also provide little labels for you to add your name, so the person receiving your handmade gift knows someone was thinking of them as they made it. It is a chance to share your skills, give precious fabrics a new purpose and help make a new house feel a little more like home. At the end of the month, we will send all the pieces to Furnishing Futures, together with notes from our team and everyone who has contributed, so each gift carries a little message of kindness. This is a great class if you can use a sewing machine independently but we will be there to help with patterns, cutting and professional finishes.
